Panasonic DMR-E65S DVD Recorder with SD Card Slot (DVD-RAM & DVD-R) Description:
The Panasonic DMR E65S is an cheap entry into the world of DVD recording, enabling you to watch TV programs at your leisure also as easily archive precious home video memories. The DMR E65S features compatibility with both DVD R and DVD RAM discs, MP3 audio playback, an SD memory card slot for looking at pictures from your digital camera, and concurrent recording and playback functionality. The DMR E65S’s joint support of DVD RAM and DVD R media gives the best of both worlds: DVD R for the highest compatibility letting you share video recordings with virtually anybody with a DVD player and DVD RAM for rewritability and benefits like Time Slip, chasing playback, and concurrent play and record. Also to DVD RAM and DVD R compatibility, the DMR E65S also plays DVD Audio, Video CD VCD, and CD R RW discs. It has a fitted SD memory card slot also as a PC Card slot that reads CompactFlash and other memory cards with an adapter. It has three composite A/V, three S video, and one RF input connections, output connections include two composite, one part, and one S video. Other features are optical output for DTS and Dolby Digital surround sound, theater mode that improves the visibility of details in black scenes by automatically adjusting picture contrast, and a dialogue enhancer. Panasonic’s Time Slip feature allows you to replay a scene recorded earlier when a program is still in progress, without disrupting the recording procedure. And chasing playback makes it possible to watch from the beginning a show while recording is still in progress. It is also easy to move favorite VHS tape recordings to space saving discs, and personal movie libraries and family videos may be archived, preserved, cataloged, and accessed. With instant recording onto a DVD disc, you do not have to find blank space, as with a VHS tape. Just press record and the unit will automatically find space on the disc, much like a computer’s disk drive. With the Playlist Playback function, you may be able to perform simple nonlinear video editing, like rearranging the order of scenes, skipping over unwanted scenes, or copying selections, to create custom playlists of favorite scenes on a disc. The Direct Navigator feature makes it simple to find a earlier recorded program on a disc. A list of recording dates, times, channels, and user entered titles are shown onscreen, and you may be able to quickly manage program deletion, protection, and title input. It can handle up to 99 titles now. What’s in the Box
Panasonic DMR E65S DVD recorder, remote control, batteries, and printed instruction manual.

        DVD recording 101 Entry level,
February 26, 2005

By&nbsp,Rich Seattle, WA See all my reviews

happy that I got to archive my old home VHS to DVD with great results.

Great features:

This is an excellent entry level DVD recorder. The TV Guide feature is the reason to past over Panasonic cheaper brother the E55s which just have the VCR plus feature. TV Guide is a simpler and free variant to TiVo. It has an on screen menu of the channels as well as title, time, information and the choice to record. Sadly, TV Guide feature only work for antenna broadcasting and basic cable. Digital cable and satellite users may have to invest more money into a TiVo recording device lack of part input here.

The recording quality is great, which is nearly the same or lesser then the original, but never better. I move old VHS home video to this device and it was easy with excellent quality. Recording TV programs through the antenna is simple, but the quality depends on your reception. DVD r is more common then DVD+r. I use XP or SP mode 1 2hrs for VCR move, and LP or EP mode 4 8hrs for TV program.

This is one of the most intelligence video devices I have own still. There are so many choice and setting to configure base on your needs. The SD card reader is a nice extra for this device. I have a Panasonic digital camera with a SD card so it’s just plug and play. The manual is easy to follow and understand to figure this complex device.

The have not:

As an entry level recorder could mean this device have less of the advance input features. There aren’t part inputs which mean you can not recorder from higher quality image. No DVfirewire input for newer digital camcorder. No hardrive for mix and match recording. The recorder is a 4 stars but the DVD playback is a 3.75 stars. The progressive scan has many of settings to customize from, but my Toshisba’s DVD is a little smoother. The basic DVD playback feature is just basic and restricted. The old Toshiba has many features as zoom, slow forward, display length of the DVD, which I have still figure/found. Slow boot time, but that’s true to most recorders.

Panasonic quality is great. I have a Panasonic’s HDTV for nearly a year, a digital camera and they all are working good with great results. I like Panasonic’s pricing which is producing great quality for the price, but they leave out many of the more cool features and style that Sony has that will jack up the prices. I use Verbatim’s Digital Movie DVD r at 4x and Panasonic’s DVD RAM, anything faster like 8x doesn’t seem to work.

For the price and the not so technology enabled person, this is a great peice of equipment. It was easy to set up and use. The only thing that can be a problem is the sd slot. I used this to see a slide show of my pics from my digital camera. The picture quality wasn’t the best, but then this was only to review and edit my pics. Putting them on a disc, the picture quality is great. I’m happy with this product.
The HDMI output delivers a crisp, clear signal and the remote is nicely designed. No draw backs with this great performing system.

Sony DVP-NC875V/S 5-Disc DVD/CD/SACD Changer, Silver Description:
Video and audio buffs rejoice: Sony’s 5 disc, DVP NC875V/S changer handles all your DVD, CD, and Super Audio CD SACD needs including playback of MP3 music and JPEG image CDs. The player gives you all the convenience of a carousel changer continuous playback, play exchange as well as progressive scan video outputs with Precision theater Progressive technology and cool improvements like Sony’s Precision Drive three system for playing damaged discs. The DVP NC875V/S plays just about any disc out there, from DVD Video to DVD R, DVD RW, DVD+R, and DVD+RW. And if your living room is now home to an HDTV or you are just thinking of “someday,” the DVP NC875V/S stands prepared to deliver the full possible of your DVDs through Sony’s Precision theater Progressive de interlacer scanning with 3:2 pulldown processing. Progressive scanning, called 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a regular DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper pictures while eliminating almost all motion artifacts. Precision theater Progressive technology uses a 12 bit video DAC digital to analog converter with high bandwidth, 108 MHz processing to detect image changes at the pixel level, rather than at the level of whole scan lines. That makes this player’s picture more faithful to the source whether film or video because it uses separate, optimized algorithms to manage different pixel behaviors. Separate algorithms are used to procedure the moving and still parts of a picture, ensuing in sharp backgrounds with moving objects that are free from motion artifacts. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames per second movies to 30 fps video, 3:2 reverse pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant info to display a film frame accurate picture. Composite and S video outputs bring compatibility with almost any TV. Based on the disc, SACD music releases supply super high fidelity multichannel or stereo sound. As an anti piracy measure, the DVP NC875V/S performs own decoding of SACD signals, passing high resolution analog, not digital, audio to your integrated amplifier or surround receiver. That means you will need an audio/video receiver with multichannel analog audio inputs to appreciate multichannel SACD releases. Fitted SACD bass management helps you tailor the output level of the “.1″ LFE low frequency effects channel to your system, as an proper level may differ from the output level proper for Dolby Digital and DTS surround combinations. If you are not planning to use the SACD capability for multichannel programming, both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 channel surround sound signals may also be routed through the player’s digital audio outputs 1 each RCA coaxial and Toslink optical for simpler connection to a matched receiver multichannel analog and digital audio interconnects aren’t supplied. Precision Drive three gives a system for reading DVDs that are in less than perfect condition, eliminating errors in playback caused by imperfect, scratched, or warped discs. Once you hook up the DVD player, a special fast Setup screen appears prepared to guide you through configuration, step by step, screen by screen. DVD resume memory kicks in whenever you stop a DVD. Afterward, when you come back to it, the player will pick up right where you left off before. The player holds resume points for an remarkable 40 discs. Other playback features are 10 second instant replay, DVD/CD Text display with related discs, a digital video enhancer, digital video EQ equalization, custom parental control memory for 40 discs, also as Advanced SmoothScan and SmoothSlow Modes. What’s in the Box
DVD player, remote control, two AA remote batteries, a stereo analog audio/composite video interconnect, a user’s manual, and warranty info.

&nbsp,&nbsp,

This is a good DVD player. But it has an extra feature which makes it special: also to DVDs and regular CDs, it plays the new SACDs which are the finest sounding recordings now available.

When regular CDs became available they displaced LPs in the marketplace because of their small size and the fact that their sound didn’t degrade with the ticks and pops that the best maintained LPs sooner or later get. But, in spite of these benefits also as important enhancements in CD sound over time with technological advances like oversampling many connoisseurs maintained that CDs never achieved the warmth and high frequency sweetness feature of top grade audiophile LPs. Now that changed. Super Audio CDs are superior in sound to the finest audiophile quality LPs I have ever heard. Also, regular CDs played on a SACD player sound better than they do on common CD players. In fact, the best regular CDs in my collection equal audiophile quality LPs in sound when played on a SACD player and the new SACDs sound better. If you are going to purchase a DVD player, why not get one like which also plays not only regular CDs but the new terrific sounding SACDs particularly, when the price is so reasonable?

This is an excellent DVD player, the best of the five set tops I have owned so far.

Several of the reviewers present incorrect info about the player’s potential. 1st, it DOES support MP3 tags, my MP3 disks and I make many of them show the names of the tracks. One could wish for MORE of the text to be displayed, but if one enters the data properly, the track can information can be read. In any event, this is usually only an issue with classical tracks, where, e.G., one may have a track title like “Concerti for Two Mandolins, Strings, Orchestra, RV231, Allegro.” With rock, pop, jazz tracks this is not really an issue. The player, unlike ever other one I have owned, lets tracks to be scanned which are not being played.

Second, the player’s front panel display easily read from a distance of of eight to ten feet.

The picture quality is stunning with the new generation DVDs. The 1st seasons of HBO’s “Deadwood” looks totally stunning. Since I make legal archive copies of all my DVDs for clearly reasons! I can positively affirm that it supports all available formats except Panasonic’s proprietary RAM naturally. It handles over half a dozen different brands of DVD R & RW with no problem. I may also confirm that it has little trouble with scratched and damaged disks provided my five year has not done a number on them!. While not 5 year old proof and PC burners have trouble with that! it does deliver from moderately degraded disks.

We can dismiss the old nonsense about LPs sounding “better” than LPs right here and now. This was never true. I have listened to LPs in pristine conditions on $1,000+ record players and the lowest end CD player is far superior to any LP/record player mix. Asserting the reverse is indulging in nostalgia to the point of brain damage. I will trade the clearness and lack of analogue fuzz and distortion over the fictional “warmth” of LPs.

Red Book CD playback is excellent. But where it really shines is with MP3s, particularly with 320 kpbs the highest quality MP3 possible. It also handles CBR and VBR MP3s. The sound is totally stunning, far superior to Red Book cds, let alone the century old, cranky, crackly, popping archaic LPs. This player with also display album covers if they are in jpeg form. And MPS shuffle complete IS possible with this player. Again, READING the directions will save one grief AND embarassment.

Although the technical description claims this player isn’t “THX certified” I’m watching “Return of the Jedi” as I write this it plays the THX is smart clearness.

This player has so many functions that I have still to play with all of them. The “Quick Set up” lets one to get going nearly now. But it’ll take you a good while to explore all its potential.

It also has one remaining function I have not seen on any other set top. Though my surround sound receiver does not have a DTS decoder, this player lets me to hear DTS tracks any way. An excellent and totally unexpected bonus.

I have still to attempt the SACD capability, mainly because there’s little music in which I am interested that was ported to this format.

Bottom line: a great player, with great features at an excellent price point. Ignore the ridiculous complaints from many reviewers and certainly think about this set top.

Sony DVP-NS975V Up-Scaling DVD/CD/SACD Player Description:
Sony’s DVP NS975V is a must for videophiles. The player up scales standard MPEG 2 DVD Video signals to full high definition 720p or 1080i, a feature anybody with an HDMI compatible TV can appreciate. Still watching analog TV? The player also handles your standard definition 480i/480p DVD Video, audio CD, and Super Audio CD SACD entertainment including playback of recordable CDs filled with MP3 music or JPEG image files. HDMI High Definition Multimedia Interface is a lossless, uncompressed, all digital audio/video interface to link any AV source with an audio or video monitor, like a digital TV DTV. HDMI supports standard definition SD, improved meaning ED, or high definition HD video, plus multi channel digital audio all using a single cable. The DVP NS975V plays just about any disc out there, from DVD Video to DVD R, DVD RW, DVD+R, and DVD+RW, and its onboard processing technologies, like Sony’s Precision theater Progressive de interlacer and 3:2 pulldown reversal, make all of them shine. Progressive scanning, called 480p or 720p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines at 480p of a regular DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper pictures while eliminating almost all motion artifacts. As an anti piracy measure, the DVP NS975V performs own decoding of SACD signals, passing high resolution analog, not digital, audio to your integrated amplifier or surround receiver.

I bought this in November. It used to freeze occaisionally if the buttons were pressed too quickly on the remote. The unit has now died. Any DVD put into the tray causes the player to hang. It wont power off. To get the DVD back out, I have to cycle the power via the wall socket, then hit eject.

Sony support’s response: Mail it to a fix depot, they will fix it and mail it back. This may be inconvenient, and given the very low quality of the player itself not worth the postage.

Looking at other reviews, it’s clear this is a extensive issue. That Sony will not admit the issue or offer to exchange it out boggles my mind . The worst buyer service I have experienced.

Added comment 8/16/2005. Buyer service gave me a refund which usually covered shipping for fix. Sony’s Loredo Exchange center indicated they discontinued the model and dont have equivalent unit to send me and offered to forward it for fix it or purchase the unit back. I just received a check for the unit.

I am not sure where all the angst came from in the negative reviews here. I have had this long enough to know that we got a good unit. The major reason I am posting a review is to make a couple of comments about the upscaling capability of this unit. 1st off, the upscaling logic won’t make a lousy DVD look as good as your favorites. The good news is that it does supply quite some improvement on many discs and you do not have to have the best TV monitor to see the improvement. Before replacing our 11+ year old Toshiba 32″ TV, we had lots of time to verify this assert. We also had two other DVD players to compare to, both decent players by Panasonic and Pioneer, both without upsampling capability. One improvement you’ll notice is important softening of sound features. DVDs that I classify as “bad” frequently display increased image distortion as the subjects inside the frame move faster. The upsampling capability tends to make these artifacts less obvious.

Another comment about video quality I have asked myself and heard others ask if HDMI cables are worth the money. Our TV has HDMI inputs also as part video inputs. There’s no doubt that the HDMI input gives for better picture quality. Because this DVD player has both HDMI and part outputs, it is easy enough to switch the TV input to compare. And if you shop around, you may be able to now get HDMI cables at a more reasonable price than you could some months ago. I have compared $250 Audioquest cables to $60 AR cables using this DVD player and a 1080i standard monitor and am hard pressed to say that I can see any difference. But, the Audioquest cable does seem to keep a good connection longer than the AR. Costly HDMI cables are more supple and seem to manage being bent around in the cable quagmire much better than cheaper ones.

This is a awful unit and should be recalled. I bought this thinking it could be a good, versitile product and suited for future use. What a mistake. I began having disc freezes and tray locks after about five weeks. Sproradic at 1st, then worse and worse. Now after three months it’s dead and the official Sony warranty IS INVALID !!! I have to pay $33 to get a replacment unit from Texas, which can be a refurbished one with the same problems. Hard to believe is not it!? Go to the Sony support site and see for yourself. You do not have to have one, no need for a serial number or anything. Just go through the procedure of acting like you have a problem. The support procedure will end saying your unit isn’t qualified for local service ! and your only choice is to return it, freight pre paid, plus another $33 to get a substitute, which may/may not be new. Do a web search on the other poor comsumers who bought this part of junk and you will see it’s a extensive problem. I trashed this dead Sony unit after only three months. Why pay $33+ for more garbage? I’ll purchase a JVC or Panasonic, maybe Denon. I will never purchase from Sony again. The JVC XVN512 is looking pretty good and has comparable features.

sony dvp ns975v is easy setup and easy to use. Using the upscale setting and a standard DVD with TV at 720p, the picture is bright and beautifully detailed. Much better picture than I had expected. I definitely recommend this player. It is thinner but a bit wider than my last player, so be sure it will fit your allotted space..

Its format versatility gives you almost complete recording and looking at freedom the flexibility to create or view optical media for or from most computer DVD recorders. More, the machine can accommodate the recordable optical formats obliged by any of your friends and family, despite of their DVD players though many older players don’t play recordable media. The RDR GX7′s sophisticated camcorder control potential allows you to manage a range of dubbing and editing functions when you connect a Digital Handycam or Digital8 camcorder through the i.LINK IEEE 1394 interface. One touch dubbing fosters easy tape to disc conversion, and you may be able to delete unwanted scenes or make a compilation of your beloved scenes with adaptable editing functions like program edit and advanced program edit. Some number of picture enhancing technologies are aimed at creating high quality recordings, particularly when transferring pictures from video resources like VHS or eight mm camcorders. The unit can play back DVD RW, DVD+RW, DVD R, DVD+R, CD, CD R and CD RW discs offering a money of musical enjoyment alongside its broad video potential. The playback capability of the DVD recorder is said to be comparable to the high end DVD players in Sony’s highly praised ES line. The player/recorder delivers stunning home theater effects through a range of high performance features that optimize picture quality and effectively remove sound, like a 12 bit, 108 MHz video digital to analog converter with sound Shaped Video technology, motion adaptive field sound reduction, pre frame sound reduction, and pre video equalizer technologies. Variable bit rate MPEG encoding assures maximum efficiency and recording time 60 to 360 minutes for all related DVD media. If your living room is now home to an HDTV or you are just thinking of “someday,” the RDR GX7 stands prepared to deliver the full possible of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, called 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a regular DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper pictures while eliminating almost all motion artifacts. Using Sony’s Precision theater Progressive technology, the recorder also encodes your DV digital video input resources in pristine 480p formatting. Throughout playback, the RDR GX7 also performs 3:2 pulldown. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames per second movies to 30 fps video, 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant info to display a film frame accurate picture. Top of the line component video outputs help minimize digital and line scan artifacts on matched advanced televisions, while composite and S video outputs bring compatibility with almost any TV. Two sets of left/right analog audio inputs and one set of outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 channel surround sound signals may be routed through the player’s digital audio outputs one each of RCA coaxial and Toslink optical for direct connection to a full featured audio/video receiver. In spite of its advanced functionality, the RDR GX7′s intelligent onscreen graphical user interface GUI is completely user friendly, helping you create personal DVD titles with thumbnail pictures and operate the recorder through the sophisticated Remote Commander remote control. There is no have to cue or rewind tape here, so accessing exact points in your programming is almost effortless. REAL NAME
&nbsp,&nbsp,

&nbsp,&nbsp,

I have had my Sony RDR GX7 recorder for two weeks now, as of the date of this review. I decided to purchase it in part due to raves it got from buyers here on the web site. Let me tell you, they did not steer me wrong! This recorder has already become an indispensible asset to my home theatre system. As a devoted film fanatic, I have been wondering for many years how I was ever going to replace many of the scarcer titles in my movie collection once my old hardware players die I own movies in some number of now defunct formats. It is not a worry I am transferring everything to DVD R discs! And the new DVDs look unbelievable, on my 57&quot, widescreen TV . The Sony DVD recorder is cleaning up many of the video &quot, noise&quot, on my old software, and the results are amazing. I have an broad library of home movies featuring loved ones who are not alive, and it is such a break to be preserving my cherished but fading VHS tapes onto DVDs! I am doing many re editing with my new Sony Recorder, and though I am strictly an untalented amateur, I am happy with the results I have achieved so far.The RDR GX7 has many cool special features that I wanted, but did not think it had when I bought it. You may be able to set up the recorder to automatically make Chapter Stops on your DVDs, at either six minute or 15 minute intervals, making the discs easy to search. You may be able to record some number of programs onto one DVD, , then create a menu as well as the names of each separate title using a simple feature on the remote control. There are six recording modes, allowing you to control the quality and total recording time of each disc you make. If you make a mistake while starting to copy something onto a disc, it is no big deal! Just &quot, erase&quot, the bad footage using your remote control, and start over your mistake will still be on the disc, but it’ll be permanently &quot, hidden&quot, and unplayable, so nobody will ever guess you are not the perfect DVD masterer. If you want to record raw footage , then edit it afterward, you may be able to do so by using a DVD RW disc and recording in a special editing mode. The Sony RDR GX7 is easy to set up . I was scared it may be a nightmare to integrate into my present home theatre system, but the fast Start Guide made it simple. I had never used a DVD recorder before, but I had it hooked up to my DSS dish, AV receiver, TV, VCR, and LaserDisc player and created my 1st disc inside an hour of unpacking the box!I’m admittedly not familiar with the other DVD recorders on the market, so I really can not compare them all. But, I can tell you that I debated making this buy for about four months while I debated formats and features and prices, and that I have aboslutely no regrets about picking the Sony RDR GX7. It is everything I hoped it could be . And much, more. Good luck making your product choice, and I hope that whatever your choice, you end up being as totally pleased as I. Happy DVD recording!
Fantastic DVD Recorder,
October 11, 2003

        By A Customer

I bought the Sony RDR GX7 DVD recorder in June. Since June I used the recorder daily, on occasion recording two or three shows a day. The more I use the RDR GX7 the more I like it.First, it’s convenient to use. Just pop a recordable DVD +RW, RW or R into the tray and set the timer. The timer is easy to set it has the VCR+ feature. The RW discs were used like VHS videotape because you just use them over and over again. Plus you never have to Fast Forward or Rewind the disc to find a place to record and you generally know how much space is available with nicely laid out on screen displays.Second, this unit has two sound reduction circuits. One for the incoming signal and one for the outgoing signal. That means that if the TV signal coming into the tuner isn’t good, the recorded DVD is watchable. The recording is typically better than the incoming signal when recorded in the SLP 6 hour mode.Third, the discs you record on this unit in the +RW mode are now watchable in another DVD player. I frequently watch one +RW disc I have recorded on my ‘GX7 with my Sony DVP NS700P player while my RDR GX7 is recording something else. I have also used RW discs formatted in VR mode to record on and that mode is great for editing the disc, but not many players will playback RW VR mode. You may be able to format the RW discs in Video mode and they playback in other players. R discs, once finalized, playback good on most other players. Be aware that many older DVD players may not playback RW discs, despite of format.Fourth, recording from a camcorder or VCR is easy and the last product is good. I have already moved some number of older family video tapes over to DVD and I am happy with the result. This unit is simpler to use for dubbing VHS, Hi8, Mini DV, etc. To DVD than my computer. But, the computer does let for fancier editing than is possible with the ‘GX7.Finally, this recorder is a great player. It has progressive scan, Dolby Digital and DTS. It also plays back CDs, CD Rs and CD RWs. It has adaptable outputs so you may want to be able to hook it up to your system without difficulty. One note, but, there’s no RF converter, so your TV must have video or part inputs or you’ll have to purchase an RF converter. The RF input on the recorder is only used to get the signal for the antenna feed , then pass the signal through to the TV or VCR. Also be aware that there’s no hard disk drive in this unit but that it DOES advanced editing features when used in conjunction with a miniDV camcorder. I am impressed with the flexibility and quality of this unit. Sure, you pay a bit more for the Sony, but in this case it’s worth it. I am a long time Sony fan and buyer and this unit continues to hold up their high standards of excellence. If you purchase this unit, you may want to be happy with it.Happy DVD burning . . .

After fruitlessly trying to set up a miniature movie and DVD burning studio on my computer, I broke down and bought this DVD Recorder. I totally love it so far, and I plan on sooner or later converting my big sports event collection to DVD.The product comes with a big user manual, but I do not know why, because it’s very easy to use. It’s no more complicated than a new VCR. All of the menus and commands are intuitive. Most commands only need you to press three or four buttons to get to a command. To start using it, you just pop in a DVD, start recording, pause to edit out the commercials, and stop when you come to a natural break in the program. When you’re done, you may be able to name your chapters using the on screen menus. I use DVD R disks, and they’re very cheap if you get them 25 or 50 at a time, which you’ll most certainly want to do.This weekend I zapped a football game from my satellite to two DVDs using the HSP recording mode. I watched some minutes of the DVD with a friend of mine, and we both could not get over how great it looked, and how crisp the recording was. I can get 90 minutes to a DVD on HSP mode, and it nearly perfectly reproduces a satellite or digital cable picture if you squint real hard, you may be able to on occasion see rough edges around small objects on the screen when they’re moving that is about it. You may be able to get up to three hours on a DVD with the LP mode, but you may be able to see the slight decrease in quality from a satellite picture. Before you purchase, be sure THAT you are aware of THE RECORDING MODES! The technology doesn’t let you to reproduce a 150 minute movie still on one DVD it requires two. That’s, unless, you want to take a quality hit. If you may be able to get over this, then this is a product that you’ll want to get.

Precision Drive three with Dynamic Tilt reimbursement improves readability of damaged discs

12 bit video DAC with 108 MHz processing for pristine video through component video, S video, and composite video outputs

As an anti piracy measure, the DVP NS975V performs own decoding of SACD signals, passing high resolution analog, not digital, audio to your integrated amplifier or surround receiver.

If you may be able to get over this, then this is a product that you’ll want to get.

sony rdr gx7 is easy setup and easy to use. Using the upscale setting and a standard DVD with TV at 720p, the picture is bright and beautifully detailed. Much better picture than I had expected. I definitely recommend this player. It is thinner but a bit wider than my last player, so be sure it will fit your allotted space..

Sony DVP-NS975V Up-Scaling DVD-CD-SACD Player specifications:

As an anti piracy measure, the DVP NS975V performs own decoding of SACD signals, passing high resolution analog, not digital, audio to your integrated amplifier or surround receiver.

Sony DVP-NS710H-B 1080p Upscaling DVD Player- Black review:
The Sony DVP NS710H breathes new life into your DVD collection by upscaling your present DVDs to 1080p near HD resolution via an HDMI connection. It will include other high end A/V features like BRAVIA Sync, which gives you one remote access and control of your DVD player and other BRAVIA Sync compatible devices.

Sony DVP-NS710H-B 1080p Upscaling DVD Player- Black reviews:
Rating: Upconversion really works.
I did some internet research on upconverter DVD players and compared the Sony NS710, Toshiba XDE500 and Samsung 1080P9. Depending on reviews and comments I read, each of these have their pros and cons and were rated pretty evenly so it was a matter of price, convenience and personal preference. I ended up with the Sony simply because I already own a Sony Receiver and I thought it could result in reduced remote control clutter.

Since my Receiver isn’t HDMI able, I connected the player straight to the TV via HDMI. The coax audio output went straight to the Receiver. I have both coax digital and optical audio inputs to my receiver, so not having the optical out didn’t make a difference to me. The in general picture quality of this player was quite remarkable, it was certainly comparable to the 720p signal I received from my cable service, not quite the Blue Ray level but observably a step or two better than a non upconverting player which I had connected to the TV previous to to get this one or normal SD broadcast.

Set up was plug and play. There were quite some modifications available e.G. To perfectly sync the audio with the video, etc. But I found that I didn’t need much adjusting to make everything work. The initialization time to read the DVD was quite short, about the same as the old DVD player it replaced. The unit itself was quite thin and light with minimal controls on the front face. Most of the controls have to be accessed with the remote. The remote control for my audio receiver took care of normal player operation.

The performance of this unit confirms my choice to put off my Blue Ray player buy. Now I can wait till they freeze their standards and when the prices for the players and BD DVDs come down to a more reasonable level.

Rating: Dvd sony
The sony dvd player is performing great. Easy to set up although you need another cable and works good.

Rating: Great player!
My girlfriend newly bought a refurbished 42″ 1080p Westinghouse TV and wanted to get an upscaling DVD player after many coercion from me, but was restricted as far as money go. Saw this among some others at Best purchase and decided to come home and check out upscaling DVD players online before buying. Well let me just say this is the best $60 I think anybody can use up if looking for a dedicated upscaling DVD player. The picture is extraordinary and looks nearly like a Blu ray on a big HD TV. We watched Black Hawk Down on DVD and were blown away by the clearness this little man offered.

You’re making the right choice if you decide to pick one of these up!

Rating: Great picture
I bought this player to get a quality DVD player. It exceeded my expectations. I may have paid less, but I wanted something that I could rely on. I do not have an HD TV, but wanted a DVD player that I could use if I upgrade afterward to HD. With my regular TV set the picture is great. Total setup time was about five minutes. Unplug the old DVD player, plug in the new. Everything worked flawlessly right out of the box. Hopefully, it’ll be like that for a while. It’s a Sony, right??

Rating: Great DVD Player with a not so great remote control
Pros:

Very calm DVD player

Really does upconvert my daughter’s Barney DVDs look fantastic!

Picture quality gives Blu Ray really good competition, on non HD DVDs

Low profile, thin player

Sleek design

Quick and easy to connect to TV

Cons:

Remote could use a redesign

Control buttons on unit are hard to see

____________________________________

When people watch a movie playing on this Sony Upscaling DVD Player on my Samsung LN52A550 52 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV, they’re surprised when I tell them how inexpensive it was. They assume it is a Blu Ray player.

This movable DVD player is great. It’s a little bigger then most, but fits in the travel case I bought that may be mounted in the second seat of my car. The kids love the feature where they can use their headphones while I listen to my music in the front seat. The picture is bright and clear and I’m so happy with my buy.

Does exactly what it says it’ll do. Bought it for my son on deployment to the Gulf. Six hour battery was a big selling point, other players had two hour battery life and seldom made it thru one DVD movie. This one at least allows you to get thru a couple of movies before you must recharge it. It is built well and a tough product. I recommend this product.
We got this DVD Player to take on vacation. It did great, didn’t skip and the battery lasted for over six hours between charges. Well worth the price.

I am a mother of two 6&3 yrs who travel some times a year. I tried the coloring books and actions in the car, but it just did not work. I broke down and bought this dvd player. I love it. I plays for about the six hours listed. The sound projects toward where the screen is facing so while the kids are watching it my husband and I can talk. I got the carrying case on that straps it in between seats, perfect. Plays my home dvds perfectly and endless Scooby Doo for the kids. Worth every penny.
